Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Technician plays a crucial role in providing specialized care and support for individuals with mental health disorders in our Mental Health Group Home. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, the BHT ensures the well-being, safety, and rehabilitation of individuals.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide direct care and supervision to individuals with mental health needs in a compassionate and therapeutic manner.
- Implement and monitor treatment plans in collaboration with the clinical team.
- Employ de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies.
- Administer medications per protocol and monitor responses.
- Facilitate therapeutic group activities, counseling sessions, and skill-building exercises.
- Maintain accurate documentation and progress notes.
- Ensure safety and security by following established protocols.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and other team members.
Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree.
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT).
- Evidence of completion of 40 hours of didactic education in a program recognized or approved by the board.
- Previous experience in behavioral health, residential, or human services preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with good record.
- Ability to manage crises, communicate effectively, and perform physical interventions if needed.
- Physical Demands: Requires light and/or heaving lifting, repetitive bending, sight, hearing, and ability to move with ease.
- Working Environment: Residential setting, indoor and outdoor program site and various community locations.
