About the Role
The Behavioral Health Tech I (BHT I) assists and supports patients throughout their treatment journey, from admission to discharge. This role contributes to the treatment planning process and ensures patient safety, provides interventions, leads psychoeducational groups, and supports patients.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to all DBH policies and procedures while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
- Provide exemplary customer service and exhibit understanding and respect for cultural and lifestyle diversity.
- Maintain professional boundaries, ethics, and confidentiality of patient and facility information.
- Facilitate patient daily needs, including waking/bedtime routines, hygiene, meals, bathroom safety, and free time.
- Assist Nursing staff with patient supervision, vitals, room searches, and patient searches.
- Recognize, respond to, and assist in crisis situations with appropriate interventions.
- Consistently report to work on time and assist in implementing individual patient treatment plans.
- Support patients during admission and discharge, including checking belongings and preparing patients for transitions.
- Monitor patient activity and document significant issues accurately and timely.
- Maintain an organized and safe environment, performing basic housekeeping duties and facility/grounds checks.
- Ensure shift coverage and attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings.
- Complete online training, policy verification, and maintain up-to-date HR files.
- Observe infection control policies and practice proper hand hygiene.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Substance Use Division
- Accurately and securely collect urine specimens, verify donor identification, and ensure chain of custody.
Residential Treatment Only
- Pass medicine where permissible (training and certification provided).
- Provide transportation services, including patient supervision, errands, shopping, admits, and outings (must be pre-qualified to drive a company vehicle).
Requirements
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) preferred.
- Valid and unrestricted State Driver’s License.
- Must obtain and maintain CPI certification within 90 days of hire (training provided).
- Must obtain and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (training provided).
- Substance Use Division: Minimum 1 year sobriety if in recovery.
Pay
Compensation range: $16–18 hourly.
Schedule
- Thursday 1:00 AM – 7:00 AM
- Thursday–Saturday 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
