About the Role

Zepf Center, a leading provider of behavioral health and substance use disorder services in Northwest Ohio, is seeking a full-time Behavioral Health Tech for our Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). CSUs are small inpatient facilities (under 16 beds) designed to stabilize individuals aged 18+ experiencing a mental health crisis in a safe, secure, and less restrictive environment than a hospital. The goal is to quickly stabilize patients and reintegrate them into the community. This position operates within a trauma-informed agency and environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Mental Health Professionals/Health Officers to gather collateral data at crisis scenes or via phone to resolve community crises.
  • Provide outreach services, including crisis intervention, and accompany clinicians on pre-hospital screenings in the community.
  • Work with patients’ primary psychiatrists, case managers, and counselors to facilitate care in consultation with the team.
  • Coordinate services via phone calls and assist clients, families, or significant others with one-on-one support.
  • Monitor and document client behavior and mental status at crisis scenes, ensuring accurate charting in the EHR.
  • Answer the hotline, gather collateral information, and provide referrals to community services.
  • Manage the intake board and coordinate outreach runs between emergency services, outreach teams, CACSU, CSU, and the Helpline.
  • Transport clients to and from community sites as needed.
  • Attend agency and unit meetings, complete reports (e.g., contact sheets, shift reports, crisis alerts), and ensure timely documentation.
  • Accurately document service provision and billing information for reimbursement.
  • Maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Intervention, and cross-train in other crisis units (e.g., CSU, Urgent Care).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or at least three years of work experience in mental health.
  • Eligibility to become a qualified mental health specialist by Ohio Medicaid.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license and eligibility to drive company vehicles (or personal vehicles for business with active auto insurance).

Working Conditions

  • Position is in a 24-hour CSU; must work scheduled weekends and be available for emergency overtime as needed.
  • Three 12-hour shifts (8:00 AM–8:00 PM) with rotating weekends and holidays.
