About the role

The Behavioral Health Student Assistance Professional (BHSAP) at East Valley Middle School is responsible for providing leadership and assistance to school districts in the development of comprehensive behavioral health support and intervention programs. This role involves working closely with students, parents, and community agencies to promote mental wellness and support students' academic success.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and evaluates data to improve school climate and student success.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate referrals and coordinate supports.
  • Conducts screenings, monitoring, and follow-up for students referred from multidisciplinary teams.
  • Consults with parents, staff, and community agency personnel to develop intervention goals and service plans.
  • Coordinates educational groups for identified, at-risk students to alleviate isolation, cope with anxiety, identify support resources, enhance coping skills, etc.
  • Maintains individual student records and files to document activities in compliance with program evaluations.
  • Maintains regular contact with students' grades and attendance to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Presents educational information on behavioral health topics to school staff, students, and parents.
  • Provides follow-up and aftercare to students referred to outside services.
  • Provides individual and group counseling and support to students and families.
  • Facilitates the establishment of comprehensive intervention programs.
  • Attends meetings with the BH ESD COVID response team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a job-related field required.
  • Master's degree or enrollment in a master's program preferred.
  • Ability to obtain certification within one year in one of the following areas: school social work, children's mental health specialist, or chemical dependency.
  • Valid driver's license and required auto insurance.
  • Mental health or SUDP license, or ability to obtain licensure within 18 months.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in substance use and/or mental health is required.
  • Experience working in a school setting is preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work priorities, communicate with diverse groups, work flexible hours, display patience and a sense of humor, respond quickly, maintain confidentiality, and have regular and reliable attendance.

Skills

  • Applying assessment instruments.
  • Operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications.
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate records/case management.
  • Utilizing group presentation skills.

Pay

This position is paid on a per diem basis, with a specific start date to be determined.

Schedule

The Behavioral Health Student Assistance Professional works 7.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday, for 190 days following the typical school schedule, starting in August 2026.
