Behavioral Health Specialist I

Under the administrative supervision of the Program Director or designee, this at-will direct service position provides psychosocial, rehabilitation, and recovery-oriented services for Turning Point members. The role includes advocating for members in all areas of treatment, helping them apply for and receive services, and offering support in medication management, resource connection (e.g., housing, substance use disorder treatment, primary care, outpatient services), counseling, and advocacy. This position also involves providing after-hours, “on-call” coverage on a rotational basis based on program needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and direction for clients as assigned in the absence of the Program Director or designee.
• Advocate for clients in all areas of treatment and empower them in meeting their goals.
• Assist clients and their families in accessing mental health treatment, medical care, housing, food, and clothing.
• Support and maintain individual service plans for each client.
• Maintain client records, complete required documentation, and perform data entry according to program standards (e.g., progress notes, activity reports, logs).
• Meet regularly with clients at Turning Point sites, in the field, job sites, homes, board and care facilities, skilled nursing facilities, and other appropriate locations.
• Consult with or meet regularly with the client’s family, care provider, or other significant persons (with the client’s consent).
• Coach clients in developing age-appropriate social skills, money management, personal hygiene, and job readiness.
• Assist in establishing client eligibility for Medi-Cal or other benefits and advocate for continuation of benefits when appropriate.
• Develop financial management plans for clients who receive Representative Payee Services and authorize appropriate expenditures.
• Collaborate within the team to provide holistic case management services to an identified group of clients.
• Provide “on-the-spot” counseling consistent with the program’s philosophy.
• Drive on program business using a personal vehicle for medication outreach, home visits, transporting clients to appointments/activities, community/county meetings/trainings, and mental health court.
• Attend to the safety, health, and well-being of clients.
• Complete assigned paperwork promptly.

Requirements

• High school diploma or accredited GED.
• Four (4) years of varied experience as a provider of direct mental health services. Relevant higher education may substitute for up to two (2) years of experience.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field, plus four (4) years of varied experience as a provider of direct mental health services.
• California driver’s license and current vehicle insurance/registration.
• Reliable means of transportation capable of passing a vehicle safety inspection if more than five years old (excluding two-wheeled transport).
• Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of relevant experience or Master’s Degree and 2 years of relevant experience.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.

Pay

$24.00 - $24.97 an hour.
