About the role

The GD Association was founded over 35 years ago by people with deep, burning compassion rooted for Seattle’s diverse community. That heart still guides its leadership today. Our hope is to do our part in helping restore our Emerald city—the crown jewel of the Pacific Northwest—to a thriving home where everyone can stake a claim in her soil. No one should have to live without a roof over their head or a hot meal at the ready. We want to help, pure and simple, because this is our home, too. GD Association is seeking an experienced Behavioral Health Specialist, Therapist, Counselor, or Social Worker to volunteer with residents living in our affordable housing communities throughout Seattle. Many of the individuals we serve have experienced homelessness, trauma, disability, mental health challenges, or significant life transitions. While they now have the stability of permanent housing, many continue to benefit from supportive behavioral health services, compassionate guidance, and meaningful human connection as they rebuild their lives. Our residents include seniors, young mothers, veterans, and individuals living with disabilities who are working toward personal goals, improved wellness, and long-term stability. Your presence and expertise can make a profound difference in their journey.

Responsibilities

  • Individual supportive conversations
  • Wellness check‑ins
  • Trauma‑informed guidance and encouragement
  • Life skills and coping strategy discussions
  • Small group workshops or support sessions
  • Helping residents build confidence, resilience, and community connections

Qualifications

  • Licensed or experienced behavioral health professional preferred
  • Background in mental health, counseling, social work, or related fields
  • Experience working with populations impacted by trauma, homelessness, aging, disability, or poverty
  • A compassionate, respectful, and strengths‑based approach

Schedule

This role is intentionally flexible and designed to fit the availability of working professionals. Whether you can volunteer once a week, twice a month, or facilitate occasional sessions, we would love to work with your schedule.

Benefits

This opportunity is ideal for established behavioral health professionals who want to make a direct impact in their community through personal relationships and meaningful engagement. Unlike many volunteer opportunities, you won't be asked to manage every challenge a resident may face. Our housing communities have dedicated staff who assist residents with housing stability, benefits, resources, and day‑to‑day support. Your role is to bring the behavioral health expertise, empathy, and encouragement that helps residents continue moving forward. Your expertise can help turn housing into home and stability into lasting success.
