About the Role

Oversight of psychological and behavioral management duties at Alden’s Developmental Disability (DD) Pediatric Skilled facilities and DD Independent Group-Living facilities. Responsible for organizing, overseeing, and running the overall operation of psychological and behavioral initiatives in accordance with Alden policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate Degree in Psychology.
  • License preferred.
  • One year of experience in the psychological realm of healthcare, including psychological interviews, testing, and behavioral management.
  • Proficiency in using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM).
  • Current knowledge of Federal and State Long-Term Care (LTC) Developmental Disability regulations and ability to interpret them.
  • Demonstrated skills in working with residents, families, staff, and community agencies to understand their needs.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly, producing concise clinical reports, assessments, and documentation.
  • Ability to make independent decisions in the best interest of residents, staff, and families.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to tactfully interact with residents, families, visitors, personnel, government agencies, and the public.
  • Marketing skills to effectively promote Alden’s DD Program to the community and professional networks.
  • Sincere desire to work with diverse populations requiring long-term or short-term care, particularly those with developmental and physical disabilities.
  • Ability to assess populations through psychological interviews and testing, and guide staff in clinical therapeutic approaches.
  • Leadership ability and willingness to collaborate harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Openness to professional supervision, consultation, and in-service training.
  • Ability to handle confidential data with discretion.
  • Empathy, compassion, understanding, enthusiasm, and humor for effective interaction with residents, families, and staff.
  • Flexibility, personal integrity, and ability to work independently and effectively with residents, families, and support agencies.
  • Willingness to adjust working hours to ensure quality of care.
  • Ability to manage personal emotional needs and be cognizant of staff’s emotional well-being.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday and participate in physical crisis prevention (CPI) techniques.
  • Adequate sight and hearing (with or without prosthetics) to fulfill job requirements.
  • Good general health and emotional stability to cope with mental and emotional stress.
  • Ability to work with physically/mentally ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, or hostile individuals.
  • Potential exposure to infectious waste, diseases (including HIV, AIDS, and Hepatitis B).

Responsibilities

  • Establish and monitor achievement of facilities’ goals through a team approach.
  • Develop and maintain therapeutic, clinical, person-centered initiatives to meet psychological and behavioral needs of residents.
  • Maintain compliance with all Policies and Procedures and State and Federal regulations.
  • Conduct and document psychological evaluations and testing through written reports, both initial and ongoing.
  • Become knowledgeable about each resident’s background, cultural history, disease, and psychological/medical care needs for accurate documentation and guidance.
  • Document interactions with residents and families in assessment and social services notes to support resident advocacy.
  • Oversee behavior management, including observation of residents’ moods and behaviors, development of behavior plans, and collaboration with psychiatrists, schools, and day programs.
  • Provide supportive counseling and behavioral intervention to residents and families as needed, with thorough documentation.
  • Conduct quarterly staff trainings on behavioral management, DD, intellectual and mental health diagnoses, symptoms, and treatment.
  • Provide scheduled and spontaneous education for families, residents, and staff, modeling appropriate interactions.
  • Conduct preparatory audits and participate in annual public health surveys; be on-call during complaint surveys.
  • Maintain an adequate record system for documentation.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the facility’s Quality Improvement Programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
