Behavioral Health Clinician

About the role

Newport Nursing & Rehab, a skilled nursing and behavioral health facility in Newport, CA, is seeking a Behavioral Health Clinician (LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC) with supervisor experience or interest in providing supervision. The role supports the psychological, emotional, and social well-being of adults with moderate to severe mental illness in an inpatient residential setting.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside the BH Clinical Director in providing supervision to AMFT, MSW, and PCC students and associates.
• Manage day-to-day tasks, scheduling, training, and ensure compliance with the student program.
• Provide weekly individual and group supervision.
• Establish rapport and develop therapeutic relationships with clients.
• Conduct individual and group therapy using evidence-based practices (CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing).
• Report all violations of patients' rights and allegations of abuse to the appropriate authorities.
• Possess knowledge of direct resident care services to ensure safety, comfort, and protection of residents.
• Gather appropriate data and formulate relevant assessments of patients' mental health and social/emotional situations.
• Develop personalized treatment plans and revise them based on ongoing assessments.
• Compile and maintain accurate patient records using approved forms and formats.
• Document all sessions, assessments, plans, interventions, and patient involvement.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide outcomes, updates, and treatment plans.
• Provide training to staff on behavioral health topics.
• Conduct suicide risk assessments and develop care plans.
• Intervene during crises to assist clients in evaluating non-productive behaviors and coping mechanisms.
• Facilitate incident debriefings with staff and patients.
• Identify and deal with resistance and conflict in client interactions.
• Participate in staff and patient education and training.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements

• Master's or Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or closely related field.
• Approved to provide clinical supervision by the BBS.
• One year of behavioral health experience required.
• Experience with severely mentally ill individuals and group facilitation preferred.
• Current LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC license in good standing with the BBS, or current registration as an AMFT or ASW Trainee/Intern with the BBS (board registered associates must maintain an active supervision affiliation with a board-approved clinical supervisor and maintain associate registration status with the BBS in good standing).
• Individuals currently enrolled in a Ph.D./Psy.D Intern School Program may be considered on a case-by-case basis as approved by the Clinical Director of Behavioral Health.
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required or obtained within an initial orientation period.
• Proficiency in Verbal de-escalation and physical intervention programs (Pro-Act, CPI, or HWC).
• English proficiency required.
