About the role
Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Behavioral Health Aide provides direct patient care to patients aged 18 and older, performs simple nursing procedures, transports patients to tests and procedures, and contributes to the overall orderliness and cleanliness of the unit.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to adults and older adults
- Perform simple nursing procedures (e.g., taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, blood pressure)
- Transport patients to tests and procedures
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of the unit
- Utilize de-escalation techniques and proper physical interventional techniques
- Demonstrate patience and accommodation to patients due to the nature of the patient population
- Assess and interpret patient data reflective of status, culture, ethnicity, and age
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent certification program
- Graduate of an accredited nursing assistant course or one (1) year of nursing assistant experience or experience in the role of a Behavioral Health Aide
- Current CPR certification (American Heart Association) and must maintain it
- Behavioral health experience or crisis intervention and de-escalation experience (preferred)
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform job duties
- Must successfully complete Handle with Care training within one year of employment
- Annual completion of “Handle with Care Training and Behavior Management” techniques course is mandatory
