Behavior Technician, Residential Treatment

About the role

This position involves working directly in a residential therapeutic setting with individuals requiring behavior stabilization due to diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder, behavioral health conditions, and/or developmental disabilities. Staff will engage in constant supervision and implementation of individualized programs, Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), and highly structured Behavior Support Plans. Crisis intervention may be necessary for issues such as self-injury, aggression, and disruptive behavior.

Responsibilities

• Accurately implement education, skill acquisition, and behavior reduction plans as taught in training and based on supervisor feedback.
• Provide behavioral health treatment through intensive services tailored to individual needs, including skills development, problem-solving, conflict resolution, emotion/behavior management, and symptom management to enhance vocational, educational, or independent living opportunities.
• Implement crisis interventions to maintain safety.
• Collect and record data accurately following Boundless procedures.
• Maintain and organize residential and instructional areas/materials.
• Prepare and keep reinforcement and program materials organized and accessible.
• Complete documentation for individuals in compliance with Boundless policies.
• Communicate concerns about program goals and interventions to supervisors.
• Perform household duties such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and grocery shopping (in line with individual plans).
• Support individuals with adaptive life skills, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
• Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of all individuals; report and document unsafe conditions, injuries, or health concerns.
• Transport individuals as needed, operating Boundless vehicles or personal vehicles while maintaining vehicle appearance and fuel levels.
• Assist in maintaining household and individual files for compliance with local, state, and federal standards.
• Report unusual incidents and medical situations as required.
• Seek, receive, and apply feedback professionally, working toward goals developed with supervisors.
• Dress appropriately, arrive on time, and perform first aid as trained.
• Communicate professionally with individuals, team members, outside professionals, and parents, using appropriate language.
• Read and follow the employee handbook and all Boundless policies and procedures.
• Complete all assigned trainings.
• Successfully complete required physical crisis management training(s) and certification(s) within 60 days of hire.
• Involve individuals in community events and activities to the fullest extent possible.
• Monitor individuals' health and report concerns to nursing staff or supervisors.
• Perform delegated nursing tasks as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate in English, both spoken and written.

Licensure/Certification

• First Aid, CPR (adult, child, and infant), and delegated nursing certification.
• Valid Ohio Driver’s License with proof of auto insurance.
• No more than 5 points on license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three years of experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and/or behavioral health conditions.
• Experience implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
• College Degree in a related field.

Skills and Abilities

• Detail-oriented with strong literacy, writing, documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to use tools and equipment, including pushing/pulling wheelchairs and lifting individuals with hoyer lifts.
• Ability to complete trainings and apply knowledge when working with individuals.
• Ability to perform first aid and medical procedures as necessary.
• Physical ability to lift/bend/push/pull/stoop/kneel/crouch/crawl regularly, especially during crisis interventions.
• Ability to accurately document required data.
• Professional conduct at all times.
• Ability to hear and speak clearly for communication with individuals, staff, family members, and the public.
• Ability to accept and implement feedback and constructive criticism.
• Intermediate computer skills.

Work Environment

This role operates in a residential treatment program and may also work in community settings such as schools. Routine use of standard office equipment like computers and phones is required. Exposure to the following conditions may occur:

• Inside and outside environmental conditions.
• Exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
• Combative behavior.

Physical Demands

• Ability to maintain physical exertion for multiple events across a shift, lasting up to 45 minutes per episode.
• Ability to kneel and/or crouch for extended periods (up to 45 minutes per episode).
• Ability to stand for the majority of the shift.
• Quick response to sounds and dangerous situations.
• Ability to wear personal protective and safety gear for the majority of the shift.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to assume and maintain various postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing) for extended periods, including swift movement or running after individuals.
• Ability to sit on the floor or stand for extended periods.
• Willingness and ability to restrain/hold/transport individuals as needed.
• Ability to utilize quick body movements when working with individuals exhibiting challenging behavior.
• Ability to remain awake for the entire assigned shift.
