General Definition of Work
The behavior support technician (BST), under general supervision, performs support work with minimal decision-making discretion promoting the safety, well-being, and educational access of students by supporting school staff during crisis situations related to student behavior and mental health issues. Position will conduct functional behavior assessments, collaborate with staff to develop and implement behavior intervention plans, and implement crisis prevention and intervention strategies as needed for students with disabilities.
Qualifications
- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Enforce administration policies and rules governing students; ensure students understand the student code of conduct
- Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips
- Provide one-on-one support to students in crisis situations using Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) strategies as needed for students with disabilities
- Use CPI strategies to assist students in modifying behaviors with an emphasis on appropriate consequences and encouraging personal responsibility
- Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and collaborate with staff when developing and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
- Monitor and provide feedback to staff on implementation of BIPs
- Collaborate with staff during individual student crisis situations
- Collect, analyze, and assess data related to student behavior
- Participate in the daily bus, car and van transportation duties involving student arrival and departure to and from schools
- Support initiatives to foster a positive school climate
- Participate in professional development and other meetings
- Perform related duties as assigned
