BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST II
About the role
This position performs the statutorily required semi-annual monitoring of Enhanced Behavioral Supports Homes (EBSH) and Community Crisis Homes (CCH), reviews program plans for EBSHs and CCHs, assists in the certification and licensing process, and provides behavioral expertise and support to the Department, provider staff, and regional centers.
Responsibilities
- Conduct semi-annual monitoring of Enhanced Behavioral Supports Homes (EBSH) and Community Crisis Homes (CCH).
- Review program plans for EBSHs and CCHs.
- Assist in the certification and licensing process for EBSHs and CCHs.
- Provide behavioral expertise and support to the Department, provider staff, and regional centers.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in an open-space, partitioned office.
- Daily and overnight statewide travel approximately 40% - 60%.
- Hybrid, in-office/telework position; may be subject to change.
- Incumbent may be required to report to the office or any designated location at any time.
- Telework agreements can be modified or cancelled at any time.
- All commute expenses to the reporting location are the responsibility of the selected candidate.
- Candidates must be residents of the State of California at the time of appointment.
- Lawful authorization to work in the United States is required; the Department does not sponsor employment visas for this position.
Qualifications
Current certification as a Behavior Analyst by the National Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) is desirable.
Knowledge of:
- Principles of applied behavior analysis and ethical considerations regarding behavior management, behavioral assessment, and procedures to increase and decrease behavior, as well as managing behavioral emergencies.
- Basic types and characteristics of developmental disabilities.
- Organizational structure of regional centers and State-operated facilities, including respective roles and responsibilities of staff.
- Laws and regulations relevant to behavioral programming, including the use of restrictive procedures.
- Methods of defining and measuring behavior, collecting and displaying data, and promoting behavioral generalization and maintenance.
Ability to:
- Develop cooperative and harmonious relationships with service providers, regional center staff, and others.
- Work effectively within an interdisciplinary team model.
- Analyze situations accurately and take effective action.
- Communicate effectively.
- Analyze complex behavior and coordinate effective behavioral services with professional personnel.
Pay
New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of $8,685.00 per month. The salary range for this position is $8,685.00 - $9,342.00 per month. Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a 3% salary reduction in exchange for five hours per month of Personal Leave.

Department Information
The California Department of Developmental Services (Department) provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, and related conditions. Services are delivered through state-operated developmental centers, community facilities, and contracts with 21 nonprofit regional centers. Regional centers serve as local resources to help access services and supports for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
