Behavior & Placement Technician
About the role
The Behavior & Placement Technician at HSPPR is a key member of the team responsible for the care and well-being of animals in the shelter. Located in the picturesque state of Colorado, HSPPR serves three counties and the city of Centennial, employing over 200 dedicated professionals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Daily Animal Care: Completes intake and follow-up exams, administers vaccines, and monitors animal health and weight. Identifies and reports health and behavior concerns to the veterinary and behavior teams.
Behavioral Assessments: Assesses temperament and behavior of animals, performs formal and informal behavioral evaluations, and provides behavior support and enrichment.
Euthanasia Support: Performs humane euthanasia, maintains equipment, and ensures compliance with HSPPR’s Humane Euthanasia Standard Operating Procedures.
Training and Support: Trains staff and volunteers in animal handling, consults with adopters on behavior management, and assists with population reporting.
Physical Demands: Regularly lifts and moves up to 40 pounds, uses hands and arms for gripping, pulling, and pushing, and is frequently on feet for extended periods.
Schedule Requirements: Available weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.

Education/Experience
- Necessary: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience working with animals in an animal welfare, zoological organization, or veterinary clinic preferred
- Euthanasia by Injections (EBI) certification required at time of hire or within 1 year
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of veterinary care/animal health desired
