Behavior Interventionist Job Summary

Reporting to the Principal or administrator designee, the Behavior Interventionist will support students with disabilities and behavioral needs in a rigorous and inclusive educational environment. The individual will be passionate about working with children with disabilities, committed to a progressive and interdisciplinary approach to education, and eager to collaborate within a highly supportive staff culture.

What You Will Do

• Support instruction and behavior for individuals or small groups of students with special needs as assigned by the supervisor and classroom teacher.
• Administer one-on-one ABA-based Intensive Behavior Intervention methods for designated students in school and classroom settings.
• Implement documented Behavior Intervention treatment plans.
• Monitor, observe, and report behavioral data of students according to approved procedures.
• Monitor student behavior and utilize approved behavior management techniques to redirect and modify inappropriate behaviors.
• Assist students in prescribed learning activities and in completing classroom assignments, homework, and projects across subject areas.
• Assure student understanding of classroom rules and procedures; support students by answering questions, providing examples, emotional support, and general guidance.
• Establish a climate that promotes a firm, fair, and respectful classroom environment with a focus on social development and group responsibility.
• Ensure the rights of all students are observed and protected through appropriate communication, de-escalation techniques, and nonviolent crisis intervention strategies when required.
• Reinforce school-wide rules and expectations inside and outside of the classroom.
• Maintain student safety through close observation, line-of-sight supervision, and analytical forethought.
• Complete other duties as directed by school administrators.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications: BA degree or 60 units of completed college/university credits.
• Preferred qualifications: Experience working with students with disabilities, including students with autism; Training in implementing Behavior Intervention techniques; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Desire to collaborate with various stakeholders.

Compensation And Work Schedule

• $26.22 / hourly
• Full-time position: 10 months (August–June).
