About the role
Crescent Academy is currently hiring for an full time School Behavior Interventionist/MTSS Behavior Specialist.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct behavioral intervention services to students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
- Develop positive behavior support plans and individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
- Conduct functional observations and assist in Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).
- Implement evidence-based de-escalation and conflict resolution strategies.
- Teach replacement behaviors, coping skills, self-regulation, and social-emotional competencies.
- Respond to behavioral crises using approved crisis prevention and intervention techniques.
- Monitor student progress and adjust interventions based on behavioral data.
- Serve as an active member of the school's MTSS Team.
- Aid in implementing the behavioral components of the school's MTSS framework.
- Identify students requiring Tier II and Tier III behavioral interventions through data analysis.
- Facilitate Tier II interventions such as Check-In/Check-Out (CICO), social skills groups, mentoring, and behavior coaching.
- Coordinate intensive Tier III individualized behavior supports.
- Collect, analyze, and monitor behavioral data to evaluate intervention effectiveness.
- Maintain behavior progress monitoring documentation and intervention records.
- Present behavioral data during MTSS meetings and recommend appropriate interventions.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement classroom behavior supports with fidelity.
- Affirm behavior goals aligned with student intervention plans.
- Ensure interventions are implemented consistently across instructional settings.
- Assist in transition planning for students returning from suspension, alternative placements, or extended absences.
- Build positive relationships with students through mentoring and coaching.
- Model appropriate social interactions and conflict resolution skills.
- Provide classroom behavior coaching and individualized support.
- Encourage positive attendance, engagement, and school connectedness.
- Collaborate with teachers to identify behavioral concerns and develop intervention strategies.
- Participate in Student Assistance Team (SAT), MTSS, Individualized Education Program (IEP), Section 504, and other student support meetings as appropriate.
- Work closely with school counselors, social workers, psychologists, and special education staff.
- Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians regarding student behavioral progress.
- Provide behavioral recommendations for classroom management.
- Provide professional development and coaching for staff regarding classroom management, trauma-informed practices, restorative practices, and positive behavior supports.
- Aid teachers in implementing proactive classroom behavior management strategies.
- Stay current on research-based behavioral intervention practices and MTSS best practices.
- Maintain accurate behavioral documentation in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
- Prepare reports on behavioral trends, intervention effectiveness, and student progress.
- Utilize behavior data to guide intervention decisions and continuous improvement efforts.
- Ensure confidentiality of all student information.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Behavioral Sciences, or a related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience working with school-aged children.
- Experience implementing behavior interventions within a school setting preferred.
- Experience with MTSS, PBIS, restorative practices, and trauma-informed care preferred.
- Knowledge of MTSS and PBIS frameworks.
- Understanding of child development and behavior management principles.
- Experience implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Knowledge of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).
- Strong classroom management and coaching skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to analyze behavioral data and make data-driven decisions.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Proficiency with educational technology and student information systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk throughout the school campus.
- Ability to supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and school events.
- Ability to safely intervene during student behavioral crises using approved district procedures.
