Responsibilities

  • Aid in ongoing student progress and achievement assessment by collecting and reporting academic data.
  • Use data to tailor instruction to meet individual students' academic and social needs.
  • Create and maintain a strong classroom culture through CWC's social-emotional learning focus.
  • Support social-emotional learning in the classrooms and the yard.
  • Assist Lead Teacher with intervention support for struggling learners and English Language Learners.
  • Support the creation of a strong play culture through CWC's social-emotional learning focus.
  • Supervise students on the playground, athletic fields, and recess/lunch areas.
  • Collaborate with other Student Support Associates to plan physical activities that engage students in play.
  • Teach safety rules for each activity in the playground, athletic fields, and recess/lunch areas.
  • Create and maintain a safe environment for students during lunch and recess.
  • Assist with the assessments of fitness levels and perform fitness testing once a year with 5th-grade students.
  • Create and hold social-emotional learning lessons during outdoor play with groups of students.
  • Support with instruction to individuals or small groups of students with special needs as assigned.
  • Assist students in prescribed learning activities.
  • Assist students with behavioral challenges in and out of the classroom.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, meeting deadlines and commitments to self, students, and the community.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution strategies with students when conflicts arise.
  • Participate in professional development activities, both internal and external.

Qualifications

An undergraduate degree in Special Education, Psychology, or a related field is preferred. A Master's degree in Special Education or a related field is preferred.

Experience working with students with disabilities is required.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of behavior intervention techniques and ability to implement documented therapy plans.

Ability to establish and enforce rules of conduct.

Ability to teach safety rules for each activity in the playground, athletic fields, and recess/lunch areas.

Ability to create and maintain a safe environment for students during lunch and recess.

Ability to assist with assessments of fitness levels and perform fitness testing once a year with 5th-grade students.

Ability to create and hold social-emotional learning lessons during outdoor play with groups of students.

Ability to monitor, observe, and report students' behavioral data according to approved procedures.

Ability to assist enrichment teachers, adapt activities to students with special needs, and develop appropriate modifications for IEP and 504 plans.

Ability to provide adaptive support with eating and toileting.

Ability to participate in professional development activities, both internal and external.
