About the Role

Plan, lay-out and install all necessary rigging components for lifting and installing equipment, machinery, pipe, steel, etc. in accordance with all plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, bend, assemble and erect all components necessary for lifting, moving and installing equipment, machinery, pipe, steel, etc. in accordance with the applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.
• Shakeout of items to be installed into erectable sequence and rigging of same for crane hoisting with a thorough knowledge and use of crane signals.
• Guide rigged items into position using a tag line.
• Use oxyacetylene and welding equipment for making adjustments and/or alterations as may be necessary for the installation of rigged items.
• Inspect and test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
• Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
• Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment.
• Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
• Align, level, and anchor machinery.
• Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials.
• Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
• Dismantle and properly store rigging equipment after use.
• Demonstrate knowledge of material handling and hazards of stored energy within loads.
• Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of different rigging and rigging techniques.
• Knowledgeable in the use of OCI Reference rigging cards or specifications for loads and proper techniques.
• Participate in all safety-related processes and programs as requested.
• Engage with your work team to achieve zero injuries.
• Understand that no job is so important that your safety and that of your crew will be compromised.
• Watch for hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor or safety professional.
• Use stop work authority until safety issues are resolved.
• Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed.
• Participate in all pre-job work planning and safety discussions.
• Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate and/or mitigate hazards.
• Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (e.g., back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens).
• Understand, support, and follow lockout tag out procedures.
• Attend site-specific training and follow all procedures as outlined in training.
• Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Perform arithmetic operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide) with whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.
• Listen to co-workers' suggestions, safety concerns, and recommendations, giving full attention and providing feedback.
• Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.
• Provide on-the-job training and/or mentoring to helpers and laborers.
• Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards.
• Read and understand plans and specifications.
• Visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
• Develop a complete understanding of contract plans and specifications for assigned work; plan, lay-out, and install equipment, machinery, pipe, steel, etc.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of experience working as a Rigger or similar craft, with a strong working knowledge of the rigger craft.
• Working knowledge of construction equipment, lifting devices, rigging tools, and their capacities.
• Demonstrable rigging abilities and possession of all necessary tools.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected), which may include criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications

• One or more of the following certifications:
  • NCCER Rigger
  • NCCER Welding
  • NCCER Ironworking
  • NCCCO Rigger
  • NCCCO Signal Person
  • CIC Qualified Rigger and Signal Person
  • CIC Qualified Rigger - Advanced Certification

Work Environment / Physical Demands

Physical Demands:

• Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas.
• See and hear naturally or with correction.
• Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with job duties.
• Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls according to a set procedure.
• Requires repetitive movement.
• Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
• Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.

Work Environment:

• Typical construction site environment.
• Work in cramped spaces and awkward positions.
• Work in very hot (above 90°F) or very cold (below 32°F) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc.
• Work in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
• Exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
• Work around hazardous equipment.
• This position is considered safety-sensitive.
