Responsibilities
Plan, lay-out and install all necessary rigging components for lifting and installing equipment, machinery, pipe, steel, etc. in accordance with all plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.
- Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, bend, assemble and erect all components necessary for lifting, moving and installing equipment, machinery, pipe, steel, etc.
- Shakeout of items to be installed into erectable sequence and rigging of same for crane hoisting with a thorough knowledge and use of crane signals.
- Be able to guide rigged items into position using a tag line.
- Use of oxyacetylene and welding equipment for making adjustments and/or alterations as may be necessary for the installation of rigged items.
- Inspect and test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
- Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
- Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment.
- Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, or around obstacles, using multi-point suspension techniques.
- Align, level, and anchor machinery.
- Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials.
- Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
- Dismantle and properly store rigging equipment after use.
Requirements
Must have at least 4 years of experience working as a Rigger or similar craft, and a strong working knowledge of the rigger craft. Must have working knowledge of construction equipment, lifting devices, rigging tools and their capacities and working knowledge of all aspects of the rigging craft.
- One or more of the following certifications: NCCER Rigger, NCCER Welding, NCCER Ironworking, NCCCO Rigger, NCCCO Signal Person, CIC Qualified Rigger and Signal Person, CIC Qualified Rigger - Advanced Certification.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have all necessary tools.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Physical Demands: Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. Stand, Kneel, Bend, Stoop, Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas, see and hear naturally or with correction. Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties.
Work Environment: Typical construction site environment. Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions. Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32F degrees) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc.
