Bed Placement Specialist

Responsibilities

• Facilitates the bed request process within the established timeframe.
• Provides appropriate communication to Surgery, the Cath Lab and other areas to schedule appropriate patient placement.
• Completes pre-admission entry into various Hospital systems to ensure pre-admit patients in the electronic bed tracking board.
• Enters assigned beds using the paging system as needed.
• Maintains an accurate bed board throughout the day.
• Monitors the electronic bed tracking board for clean available beds and appropriately enters "Clean Next" as necessary.
• Notifies targeted units of all transfer requests via EPIC.
• Aids in changing bed assignments when targeted units report unacceptable bed assignments.
• Performs on-line computer data entry, including admissions, out-patient rollovers, in-house transfers, out-patient type changes, reinstatement of patients, physician changes, hospital service changes.
• Communicates with the Nurse Case Manager, the Logistics Center staff, physicians and patients/family members regarding bed availability, admission time and location.
• Maintains the "No Booking List" in collaboration with the Nurse Case Manager.
• Facilitates the expiration process for Pathology, Medical Examiner's office, family members and funeral home representatives.
• Receives and checks all Release of Body forms, the Authorization for Performance of Hospital Autopsy forms and the Disposition of Stillbirth forms for accurate completion before releasing a body.
• Provides bed status report to various hospital management and administration.
• Hands-off bed placement and expiration report to the incoming shift.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years working experience with medical terminology, ICD-9-CM coding experience, and knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
• Proficient with office equipment and the ability to navigate Microsoft Office and other system software.
• Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.
