About the role
As a Battery Operator, you will perform the safe, daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the battery system. You will change batteries in warehouse material handling equipment (MHE), ensure a sufficient supply of charged batteries, perform basic maintenance of battery area assets, keep the area clean, and complete other tasks as instructed by management.
Responsibilities
- Change batteries in MHE by ensuring batteries being changed are discharged to proper voltage; use best practices to rotate and cycle the battery fleet for optimal utilization.
- Maintain a supply of charged batteries by constantly assessing the system, moving batteries to unused chargers, swapping charged and discharged batteries at shared chargers, verifying charger operation and DC amperage, and arranging batteries in racks to support proper rotation.
- Perform basic maintenance and preventive maintenance on battery system assets:
- Batteries: watering, washing, inspecting and replacing connectors, contact tips, covers, vent caps, watering system, and shrouds.
- Chargers: cleaning exterior, inspecting and replacing connectors and contact tips, securing DC cables to racks.
- Battery racks: cleaning, replacing rollers and slides.
- Battery cars: cleaning, repairing vacuum cups, performing minor repairs.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area by picking up trash, storing tools and supplies properly, wiping down racks, and cleaning dust, debris, and acid buildup.
- Ensure all assets are in operable condition by identifying, labeling, and reporting assets needing service to facility leads, managers, or supervisors; monitor repair progress and provide daily updates.
Requirements
- 1–2 years of relevant experience.
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
- Demonstrated initiative, productivity, quality focus, safety awareness, and alignment with company values.
- Physical abilities to perform equipment inspections, mechanical repairs, and replacements, including mobility, physical exertion, walking, bending, reaching, climbing ladders, and carrying tools and parts.
Schedule
Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, 1:30 PM to 3:00 AM (2nd shift).
Pay
$17.35 – $25.98 USD per hour.
