Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering level tests such as battery capacity testing, voltage testing, resistance testing, and battery acceptance test for new construction installed banks.
  • Perform functional testing for Substation High, Low, and Ground Alarms.
  • Utilize electrical test equipment, special application tools/software and instruments used in maintaining Substation battery health.
  • Develop and maintain a practical working knowledge of chemical hazards/reactions and electrical hazards of different style batteries in daily work activities.
  • Coordinate and perform work with multiple departments, including but not limited to: System Health, Design Engineering, Substation Project Planners, Construction Planners, Protection & Control, Predictive Maintenance, Supply Chain Buyers, IT Comm, and NGN Program.
  • Manage and execute scheduled testing of battery equipment while using IEEE, FERC, and NERC standards and requirements.
  • Maintain and install batteries and equipment while using IEEE, FERC, and NERC standards and requirements.
  • Provide training to new Battery Specialists as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must qualify as a Substation Journeyman PLUS one (1) year experience as a Substation Journeyman.
  • Computer and data entry proficiency.
  • Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL - Class "A").
  • Subject to out-of-town work and reasonable and necessary overtime.
  • Requirement to respond to emergency call-outs due to equipment failure, resulting in the loss of power.
  • This position requires working with aerial equipment, which has weight restrictions of 300 lbs or less.
  • Must live within a reasonable distance from headquarters (one (1) hour).
  • Qualifying tests may be administered.
  • Must be a U.S. person (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee) due to U.S. Export Control Laws.
  • For positions at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Stations (PVNGS), all openings will require applicants to be a U.S. person.
  • This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards, including a full seven (7) year criminal history background check every seven years.

Schedule

  • Onsite: Requires work to be performed in the field and/or at an APS facility.
  • Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).

Testing Information

  • A written (paper and pencil) test will be administered.
  • A test using a computer with keyboard will be administered.
  • A hands-on skills test will be administered.
  • E-mail will be the method of contact with job applicants for test scheduling. Applicants should check their e-mail regularly for scheduling notifications and updated job information.
