Batch Maker I - Union

Responsibilities

• Produce quality products as scheduled and on time by following the production schedule.
• Maintain assigned equipment by performing required pre-operational, in-process, and post-batch inspections.
• Immediately report contamination risks, mechanical repairs, or safety issues to management.
• Complete pre-compounding processes, including locating and verifying raw materials and quantities as indicated on batch tickets; report shortages to the Crew Leader or Materials Department.
• Follow batch ticket instructions, sequences, and quality control procedures precisely to ensure product quality.
• Document raw material use and any discrepancies (additions, deletions, temperature variations, etc.) on the batch ticket.
• Prepare and deliver marked batch samples to the Quality Control Laboratory as required.
• Control the reintroduction or remix of materials into mixers per Quality Control instructions.

Housekeeping

• Maintain a clean and safe work area, facility, and equipment by following routine housekeeping standards.
• Cap or plug hoses and plumbing fittings when not in use.
• Properly store all operating supplies (e.g., raw materials, drums, totes) in designated locations before the end of the shift.
• Remove empty raw material containers, packages, bags, and sacks before the end of the shift.
• Keep equipment clean of raw material residue, chemicals, and adhesive.
• Sweep and mop work areas as needed and at the end of each shift; rinse and store mop heads and buckets properly.
• Return cleaning equipment to its assigned area after each use.

Safety

• Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to Meridian’s “Safety Rules and Guidelines” and the “Code of Safe Practices” as defined in the “Employee Safety Handbook” and Company policy.
• Maintain respirator certification through required physicals and fit tests.

Other Duties

• Participate in physical inventory and cycle counting.
• Contribute to team efforts, including assisting in other areas as required.
• Train designated employees on compounding procedures.
• Participate in safety, loss control, accident, incident, and rework investigations as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D.
• Experience in a related field.
• Current forklift certification training.
• Valid state driver’s license with a good driving record.

Skills & Abilities

• Mechanical aptitude with practical application skills.
• Analytical ability.
• Clear and distinct English communication (speaking and writing).
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Basic mathematical skills.
• Ability to take directions and apply them to assigned tasks.

Working Conditions

• Special safety requirements may apply in a plant environment.
• May be exposed to or required to handle hazardous materials.
• May work in temperature and weather extremes.
• Moderate noise level in the work environment.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to talk or hear.
• Frequently required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms.
• Must lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Supervision

Under the direction of the applicable Site Leader, works directly with Quality Control Technicians, Research and Development Chemists/Technicians, Technical Director, Production Scheduler, Purchasing and Personnel Assistant, Batch Master, Utility Compounder, Compounders, Maintenance personnel, Materials Manager, Plant Manager, Operations Manager, and Executive Vice President/General Manager.

Pay

This position has a salary range of $31.55 per hour. The actual salary may vary based on relevant skills, experience, time in the role, business line, and geographic location.

Meridian offers an incentive plan for 2025 focused on safety, quality, and financial metrics. Eligible employees have the opportunity to earn up to $1,520 a year, with earned payments distributed quarterly.

Schedule

1st Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday – Friday.
