About the role
The Bartender is responsible for providing exceptional beverage service and light hors d’oeuvres to guests at the Oxford Collection of Hotels’ evening reception or restaurant. This role ensures a welcoming and engaging atmosphere, offering personalized drink recommendations, crafting high-quality beverages, and delivering prompt, attentive service. The Bartender also maintains bar cleanliness, ensures proper stock levels, and upholds all sanitation and alcohol service regulations. They always provide a high level of customer service, taking time with guests to ensure every aspect of their stay exceeds expectations.
Responsibilities
- Check the identification of all guests who appear to be under 26 years of age
- Maintain stock, cut, and store all fresh fruit and vegetable garnishes, juices, and other perishables daily to ensure product quality
- Input orders into a register at the point of sale and create a check for each guest, including those served by other beverage servers, to maintain accountability of all beverages served
- Receive cash from guests, make any change needed, verify validity of charges, record charges, and ensure vouchers are properly executed to balance all moneys
- Lock up and store all beverage, food, and other equipment items, deposit cash drops, and secure bank
- Display knowledge of liquor laws, maintain the attractive presentation, and sanitize all areas at least once daily
- Make suggestions for the reception and drink menus
- Bus and clean tables after guest use
- Perform all tasks in compliance with federal, state, local, food safety, and sanitation requirements and Oxford Collection of Hotels safety standards and security procedures
- Be knowledgeable about and able to respond to emergency situations
- Report any maintenance repairs needed immediately to their supervisor or General Manager
- Greet guests in a courteous and friendly manner as they enter the lounge, exchanging their beverage voucher for a beverage as needed
- Identify issues and resolve guest issues
- Detect and act on customer inebriation, as trained
- Maintain integrity, confidentiality, and sensitivity when working with both internal and external guests
- Communicate effectively with all hotel staff to ensure smooth delivery of services
- Complete a daily activity log with pertinent shift information for co-workers and leadership team
- Obtain sales leads for the sales department
- Coordinate with front desk, maintenance staff, Food and Beverage Manager, and General Manager on things requiring attention
- Adhere to attendance policies and maintain regular availability for scheduled shifts
- Other hotel-related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Food handler’s license and liquor server permits as required by state law (or ability to obtain)
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Reliable and consistent attendance
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Hospitality/hotel work experience preferred
- Previous bartending experience preferred

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand and arm movements frequently
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally and often exert up to 20 pounds of force to push, pull, carry, lift, or otherwise move objects
- Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and walk on uneven surfaces on an occasional basis
- While primarily an indoor job, must be able to walk outside in a variety of weather conditions (rain, wind, snow, heat)
- Must be able to climb stairs both inside and outside in a variety of weather conditions
