About the Role
The Barback acts as the critical support system for Bartenders, ensuring the bar functions properly through hard work and constant communication with the Bartenders and the rest of the Service Team. Barbacks are integral to the Bar Service Team, responsible for keeping the bar stocked with necessary items and expediting guests’ drink orders by providing quick and efficient support to Bartenders.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the bar is always stocked with necessary items for proper service.
- Provide quick and efficient support to Bartenders to expedite guests’ drink orders.
- Maintain constant communication with Bartenders and the Service Team.
- Operate equipment including cash registers, two and six-wheel carts, juice, soda and liquor guns, cutting boards, coffee and frozen drink machines, ice machines, shot glasses, mixers, pourers, blenders, beer keg/soda/wine/juice hook-ups, and knives.
- Perform physical tasks such as twisting, towing (pushing or pulling), reaching, bending, climbing, and carrying objects as necessary.
- Lift up to 50 pounds and manually push/pull up to 150 pounds.
- Work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, including areas with second-hand smoke.
- Work inside and outside in varying weather conditions based on business volumes.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a bar porter and/or barback, preferably in a high-volume nightclub or restaurant.
- Knowledge of beverages, glassware, and garnishes.
- Ability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Effective communication in English, both verbal and written, in a professional manner.
- Neat and clean appearance, and physically fit to perform required duties.
- Ability to stand or walk for a minimum of eight-hour shifts within the assigned bar area.
- Observant, quick to respond to situations, and capable of multitasking in stressful environments.
