About the role

We're seeking a bold, strategic finance leader to drive transformation at Heartlands Hospital, part of the UK's largest NHS Trust. The role involves acting as the formal deputy to the Associate Director of Finance, providing senior leadership and influencing decisions at the highest levels.

Responsibilities

  • Leading critical work including consolidating the month end position, shaping forecasts, driving annual planning, and strengthening financial governance.
  • Providing strategic oversight for CIP programme, driving productivity improvements, and financial recovery, working closely with clinical and operational leaders.
  • Providing leadership oversight to a team of around 20 finance professionals, building capability, driving performance, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Requirements

Essential qualifications include a recognised professional accountancy qualification, evidence of ongoing continuing professional development, and track record of leading change in a complex organization. Experience includes multi-professional collaboration, internal and external benchmarking, leading and managing a team, and extensive relevant experience in financial management.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarise complex financial issues and prepare business cases.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships and empathize with conflicting viewpoints.
  • Standard keyboard skills, strong analytical skills, and the ability to make sound judgments and decisions under pressure.

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarise highly complex financial issues into concise financial reports and prepare complex, multi-faceted business cases.
  • Good verbal communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain highly complex financial issues clearly and persuasively to non-financial staff and communicate sensitive or contentious information in order to influence decision-making.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, the ability to empathize with conflicting points of view, and the ability to work in a cooperative manner to facilitate workable compromises.

Benefits

The role offers a competitive salary range of £79,504 to £91,609 per annum, paid on an Agenda for Change Band 8c basis. The contract is permanent and full-time, with flexible working arrangements.

Agenda for Change Band 8c Salary: £79,504.00 to £91,609.00 yearly.
