Ballot Specialist

About the role

This is a temporary, election-specific position located in the Salt Lake County Clerk’s office. The role begins Monday, October 19, 2026, and concludes once the election season and associated work have ended. This is an “At Will,” FLSA non-exempt position not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided by policy.

Responsibilities

• Remove tabs from ballot envelopes
• Separate and sort ballots from envelopes
• Batch and scan ballots for tabulation
• Perform ballot adjudication and replication
• Verify affidavit signatures
• Operate various ballot equipment
• Maintain chain of custody forms
• Assist in ballot retrieval from ballot drop boxes
• Push and load carts of equipment
• Assist in machine deployment
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Experience operating an iPad or similar tablet device
• Basic math and organizational skills
• Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time (6+ hours)
• Ability to lift 30 lbs
• Ability to focus with attention to detail
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended time periods
• Ability to represent the Clerk’s office in a professional, non-partisan manner

Schedule

Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Overtime may be offered during an election cycle, typically lasting 3–5 weeks. Working dates and times can vary based on ballot return rates.

Pay

$20.00/hour
