Bakery Production Manager

About the role

Shady Maple Farm Market is seeking a Bakery Production Manager to oversee daily bakery production, support employee development, and keep operations running efficiently. Working closely with the Bakery Director and retail team, you’ll coordinate staffing, production schedules, inventory, and quality control to meet customer demand and support profitability. Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the team: Supervise bakery production employees, communicate expectations, provide constructive feedback, resolve concerns, and foster a positive workplace.
• Coordinate staffing and production: Manage daily assignments, adjust coverage, and oversee production sheets and schedules to meet demand.
• Maintain product quality: Monitor dough mixing, baking consistency, product dating, rotation, availability, and order accuracy.
• Support food safety and sanitation: Keep production and storage areas clean and organized, address equipment and supply concerns, and uphold safety standards.
• Manage inventory and resources: Oversee ingredients and refrigerated and frozen storage while balancing product availability, excess inventory, and labor costs.
• Collaborate across departments: Work with the retail manager to address product needs, quality concerns, discounting, staffing needs, and customer feedback.
• Support employee growth: Partner with Operations and Human Resources on training, development, and performance evaluations.
• Oversee special orders: Coordinate large and custom orders to ensure timely, accurate production.
• Improve operations: Identify opportunities to strengthen efficiency, sales, profitability, and department presentation. Attend food shows to explore new products, equipment, and processes.
• Provide hands-on support: Step into bakery production roles when needed and perform other related duties assigned by management.

Requirements

• At least one year of combined experience performing bakery production duties.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to lead, motivate, coach, and collaborate with others.
• Confidence coordinating schedules, tasks, procedures, and resources.
• Flexibility, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Attention to product quality, consistency, and sanitation.
• The ability to gather information, maintain records, and prepare reports.
• Willingness to learn and perform multiple bakery production roles.
• The ability to meet the position’s essential job functions within the three-month introductory period.

Physical Requirements

This active role involves standing throughout the shift, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching. Duties also include lifting and carrying light and occasionally medium-weight items, pushing carts, and using hand jacks to move skids between warehouse and production areas.
