The Bakery Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the Bakery Department to ensure exceptional customer service, product quality, food safety compliance, sales growth, profitability, and team development. This position oversees daily department operations, manages production and inventory, drives merchandising excellence, and develops a high-performing team dedicated to delivering fresh, high-quality bakery products.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of the Bakery Department.
- Ensure department standards for cleanliness, organization, safety, and product quality are consistently maintained.
- Execute company programs, promotional events, and operational initiatives.
- Maintain department readiness with appropriate inventory levels and product availability.
- Monitor department performance and implement operational improvements to increase efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Deliver and promote exceptional customer service throughout the department.
- Assist customers with bakery selections, special orders, custom cake requests, and product recommendations.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
- Foster a customer-focused culture that drives satisfaction, loyalty, and repeat business.
- Oversee preparation, baking, decorating, packaging, and presentation of bakery products.
- Ensure all products meet company standards for quality, freshness, appearance, and consistency.
- Monitor production levels to support customer demand while minimizing waste.
- Plan and execute bakery merchandising programs, displays, and promotional activities.
- Maintain accurate pricing, signage, and promotional execution.
- Monitor sales trends and adjust production and displays to maximize sales opportunities.
- Manage inventory levels to support sales while minimizing waste and shrink.
- Order products, ingredients, and supplies based on sales forecasts and department needs.
- Conduct inventory counts and maintain accurate department records.
- Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, health, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor department sanitation practices and cleaning schedules.
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop department associates.
- Establish performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback.
- Create schedules that align labor resources with business needs.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and associate engagement.
- Manage labor expenses and department operating costs.
- Monitor sales, gross profit, shrink, and productivity results.
- Develop action plans to improve financial and operational performance.
- Achieve departmental sales and profitability goals.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency while maintaining product quality and service standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous bakery, food service, restaurant, or retail management experience preferred.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of baking processes, food safety, inventory management, and merchandising principles.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer, scheduling, and reporting skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of products and supplies up to company standards.
- Ability to work in bakery production, refrigerated, and freezer environments.
- Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and repetitive hand movements.
- Ability to safely operate ovens, mixers, slicers, proofers, scales, and other bakery equipment.
