Bakery Associate

Job Summary

Aids in the daily operations of the bakery department. Enhances customer confidence and loyalty through consistent and compliant operating conditions. Serves fresh and appealing products with courteous, knowledgeable, and prompt service.

Responsibilities

• SERVICE: 60%

  • Create welcoming, respectful, and appreciative environments for customers.
  • Maintain high standards for product availability, freshness, quality, and value.
  • Offer product samples, answer questions, and assist customers in finding or suggesting products.
  • Ensure customer requests and special orders are fulfilled promptly.

• LEADERSHIP: 20%

  • Promote trust and respect among team members by collaborating, fostering teamwork, and sharing information.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.

• FINANCIAL: 10%

  • Monitor inventory and report discrepancies.
  • Inspect products for quality and freshness, taking appropriate actions.
  • Prepare, package, label, and display products for sale.
  • Utilize production planning tools to produce fresh products and follow discard or markdown processes.
  • Ensure products are stored at proper temperatures and maintain documentation of temperature logs.

• COMPLIANCE/SAFETY: 10%

  • Maintain company standards for safety, proper food handling, sanitation, and productivity.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements for food safety, USDA & COOL, and DOA.
  • Execute product recalls and withdrawals promptly, securing and removing items from customer access.
  • Report and address safety risks, illegal activities, and ensure adherence to wage and hour policies.
  • Cultivate a culture of safety within the store.
  • Ensure associates are working safely and have received necessary training.
  • Post Hazardous Assessments and provide personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report and assist with remediation of safety hazards within the department.

Qualifications

• Education

  • Required: None
  • Preferred: High School / GED

• Language

  • Required: English
  • Preferred: Spanish

• Experience

  • Supervisory Experience: 0 - 3 years minimum

• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Authorization to work in the United States or the ability to obtain the same.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and background check.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills.
  • Operate bakery equipment according to company guidelines.

  • Stand or walk on various types of flooring.
  • Utilize manual dexterity, talk, see, hear, smell, and perform repetitive movements with both hands and/or both feet.
  • Frequently reach at waist level or overhead, carry, push, or lift various loads up to the required weights listed.
  • Sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb up to 10 ft.

• Working Conditions

  • Indoor, outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, and wet/humid working conditions.

• Safety Risk Factors

  • Frequent twisting of back and/or neck, walking on slippery or cluttered floors, working with hazardous equipment, exposure to sharp objects.
  • Exposure to loud noise, skin irritants, nuisance dust, fumes, and sprays, hazardous cleaning solutions, and other toxins.
  • Use of cleaning supplies and equipment, general office equipment, register, pricing gun, scales, scanner, various material handling equipment, such as racks, carts, pallet jacks, shopping carts.

• Powered cutting equipment (e.g., slicers, saws, grinders), various knives, various ovens, stoves, rotisserie, fryers, steamers, proofer, wrapping equipment.
