Bakery Associate

Job Summary

Aids in the daily operations of the bakery department. Enhances customer confidence and loyalty through consistent and compliant operating conditions. Ensures fresh and appealing products, courteous, knowledgeable, and prompt service.

Responsibilities

• SERVICE: 60%

  • Creates a welcoming, respectful, and appreciative environment for customers.
  • Maintains high standards for product availability, freshness, quality, and value.
  • Offers product samples, answers questions, and assists customers in finding or suggesting products.
  • Ensures customer requests and special orders are fulfilled promptly.

• LEADERSHIP: 20%

  • Promotes trust and respect among associates through collaboration, teamwork, and clear communication.
  • Adheres to all local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.

• FINANCIAL: 10%

  • Maintains awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and reports discrepancies.
  • Reviews/inspects products for quality and freshness and takes appropriate action.
  • Prepares, packages, labels, and displays products for sale.
  • Utilizes production planning tools to accurately produce fresh products and ensures proper discard or markdown processes.
  • Maintains proper temperatures per food safety guidelines and documents temperature logs.

• COMPLIANCE/SAFETY: 10%

  • Maintains company standards for safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation, and productivity.
  • Adheres to all regulatory compliance requirements pertaining to food safety, USDA & COOL, and DOA.
  • Executes product recalls and withdrawals in a timely manner.
  • Reports and ensures adherence to wage and hour policies and regulations.
  • Cultivates a culture of safety within the store.
  • Ensures equipment is in good repair and reports/remediates safety hazards.
  • Notifies management of accidents and reports safety risks, illegal activity, and adheres to wage and hour policies.

• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Authorization to work in the United States or the ability to obtain the same.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and background check.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills.
  • Operates bakery equipment (e.g., slicer, oven, scale, knives, box cutter, and pricing gun) according to company guidelines.

Environmental Factors

• Retail - Bakery: Physical Demands: Regularly stands, walks, utilizes manual dexterity, talks, sees, hears, smells, performs repetitive movements with both hands and/or both feet.
• Frequent reaching at waist level or overhead, carrying, pushing, or lifting up to the required weights listed.
• Occasionally sits, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, climbs up to 10 ft.
• Exposure to indoor, outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, and wet/humid working conditions.
• Safety Risk Factors: Frequent twisting back and/or neck, walking on slippery or cluttered floors, working with hazardous equipment, exposure to sharp objects.
• Occasionally exposed to loud noise, skin irritants, nuisance dust, fumes, and sprays, hazardous cleaning solutions, and other toxins.
• Overall Required Equipment: Cleaning supplies and equipment, general office equipment, register, pricing gun, scales, scanner, various material handling equipment, such as racks, carts, pallet jacks, shopping carts.
• Department Specific Required Equipment: Powered cutting equipment, such as slicers, saws, grinders, various knives, various ovens, stoves, rotisserie, fryers, steamers, proofer, wrapping equipment.
• Preferred Equipment: Balers/Compactors, general hardware tools such as ladders, pliers, wire cutters, box cutters.
• Personal Protective Equipment: Goggles, gloves, cutting gloves, fryer gloves, oven gloves, back braces, pulling requirement: 250 lbs., lifting requirement: 35 lbs.
• Travel Percent & Overnight Travel Percent: Overnight: Occasional, No: Shifts Varied.
