Backside Coating Technician (3rd Shift) - Berea, OH
About the role
Join our lens manufacturing team as a Backside Coating Technician, where you'll operate specialized equipment to apply protective scratch-resistant coatings to ophthalmic lenses. This critical role ensures lens durability and optical quality while preparing lenses for advanced treatments like anti-reflective coatings. You'll work in a fast-paced laboratory environment, maintaining high-quality standards and supporting overall production goals.
Responsibilities
- Ensure lenses are clean of dust and debris prior to coating application
- Apply back side scratch coating to lenses using automated equipment
- Inspect lenses for defects after coating application
- Reject lenses with poor coating quality and route for rework
- Return processed lenses to proper trays maintaining organization
- Assist with routing work in the AR-preparation room
Requirements
- Must be able to understand prescription requirements and quality standards
- The ability to do simple/basic math and measurements
- Able to identify optical and cosmetic defects accurately
- Problem solving skills for troubleshooting equipment
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with inspection equipment systems
- Attention to detail for accurate quality assessment
- Manual dexterity for operating lens meters and inspection tools
Qualifications
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Prior experience in optical/lens manufacturing is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Regularly required to sit and use hands for grasping and manipulation. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to walk, stoop, kneel, crawl, and/or crouch. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly. Specific vision abilities required including close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Safety Requirements
Understanding of workplace safety programs. Closed toe shoes and safety glasses when required. Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts. Safe tool handling practices. Moderate to loud noise work environment.
Pay and Schedule
The pay rate for this position is $21.85. The schedule is 10:30pm-7:00am, Monday through Friday.
