3 full-time positions available (40 hrs per week). Reports to Corporate Office in Edinburg, TX.

About the role

Operate a backhoe and other heavy equipment on water, wastewater, and new-construction projects. Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on machinery. Assess and mark digging areas, construct and repair structural woodwork, and assist in training other employees.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and skillfully operate a backhoe and other heavy equipment
  • Maintain heavy machinery by performing preventive maintenance and simple repairs (replacing parts, lubricating equipment, etc.)
  • Assess digging areas to ensure proper marking before work begins
  • Construct and repair structural woodwork and equipment on water and wastewater projects
  • Assist in building, repairs, and training other employees as directed by management
  • Conduct probes in water, dirt, and mud to locate water lines for meter installation and repair
  • Clean assigned vehicles and equipment; maintain and repair job-site equipment
  • Replace damaged pipes and other items as instructed by management
  • Participate in job-specific and corporate training programs
  • Comply with federal, state, and corporate regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Up to three months of related experience
  • Current Texas Driver License and Class “A” Commercial Driver License (CDL)
  • Must be insurable by the Corporation’s insurance underwriter
  • Must complete and remain current with the following training: Utility Safety, Unit I Basic Water, Unit 5 Distribution, and Waste Water I
  • Good communication skills to present information to employees and management
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal)
  • Basic mathematics skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) for monetary and weight calculations
  • Good judgment and discretion in daily duties
  • Flexible work schedule between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with 24/7 on-call availability
  • Ability to work submerged in water and mud for pipe repair/installation and meter installation
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and balance
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds
  • Vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to work in loud noise environments

Preferences

  • One year of prior work experience
  • Waste Water License and Class D Water License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) (may be attained within twelve months of employment)
