Backend Engineer (Node.js, Java)

About The Role

We’re seeking a top-tier Staff Backend Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in designing and building internet-scale, high-performance infrastructure that underpins our revolutionary search platform for AI agents. Your core responsibilities will include developing, deploying, and maintaining robust features end-to-end, ensuring the scalability and reliability of our systems. You will collaborate closely with the founders and cross-functional teams to shape roadmaps and drive key technical decisions, owning large initiatives from conception through delivery.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years of extensive backend experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems
• Proficiency in designing internet-scale, high-performance infrastructure
• Strong understanding of infrastructure and CI/CD best practices
• Experience with or strong curiosity about AI technologies
• Solid programming skills in Node.js, Python, Java, or related languages
• Experience with database systems such as PostgreSQL and search engines like OpenSearch
• Familiarity with container orchestration tools like Kubernetes
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and automation tools such as Terraform and GitHub Actions
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work independently
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for continuous learning

Responsibilities

• Design and develop internet-scale, high-performance backend infrastructure for our search platform
• Build robust, scalable products by developing, deploying, and maintaining new features end-to-end
• Master the technical scope of your domain and set high standards for engineering quality
• Collaborate on product roadmaps and drive key technical decisions
• Own large cross-functional initiatives from conception to deployment and monitoring
• Work autonomously alongside the CTO and cross-disciplinary teams to deliver impactful solutions
• Conduct thorough code reviews and promote best practices across the engineering team
• Participate in knowledge sharing, mentorship, and fostering a culture of technical excellence
• Optimize system performance, including latency reduction and resource utilization
• Stay updated on emerging AI and backend technologies to incorporate innovative solutions
