Back Up Lead- FHI - Cheshire, CT - NDC 3rd
About the role
We’re looking for an experienced Back-Up Lead to join our team. The backup lead performs supervisory and other management responsibilities while also handling production unloading assignments. Back-up leads distribute unloading tasks to handlers, coordinate unloading activities, and—at the direction of the production manager—manage administrative paperwork for daily reporting and ensure compliance with all FHI policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
- Adapt to high-pressure situations and communicate effectively with other departments and customer service to meet customer demands.
- Safely and efficiently unload tractor trailers delivering products to our distribution warehouses in a fast-paced environment.
- Use a variety of forklifts to remove products from trailers.
- Break down pallets and restack cases onto new pallets (manual labor involved).
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Experience in managing and leading a team is essential.
- Combination of leadership, organization, problem-solving, and technical skills to ensure smooth warehouse operations.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with team members, other departments, and external stakeholders like suppliers and customers.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Willingness to work the required schedule.
- Basic math skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow directions and interact respectfully with associates, co-workers, management, and customers.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
Work Environment
- Safety-sensitive position requiring constant alertness and safe work practices.
- Warehouse environment with extreme heat and cold temperatures.
- Moderate to loud work environments where hearing and distinguishing speech and alarms is required.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift, walk, bend, twist, reach, push, and squat for most of the workday.
- Handle cases weighing from 25 to 95 pounds.
- Expect to handle between 50 and 200+ pallets on any given day.
Pay
Production pay or the hourly base rate, whichever is greater. Daily allowance when performing back-up lead duties.
Schedule
Full-time, permanent positions with various shift times available in a variety of warehouse temperatures and environments.
