About the role
The Back Office Technician (Floater) performs a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties while traveling regularly to multiple clinics within the assigned region. This role prepares patients for examination and assists optical professionals in providing eye treatment.
Responsibilities
- Ensures a positive and professional environment where patients feel comfortable; prepares patients for treatment and assists doctors.
- Collects and documents the patient’s chief complaint, ocular and medical health history, and current medications.
- Obtains and ensures patients read and sign required consents.
- Performs Refractions and administers basic Visual Acuity (VA) assessments.
- Performs intraocular pressure (IOP) tests with a Tonopen unit.
- Takes Fundus photos.
- Administers Visual Field (VF) tests.
- Performs Fluorescein Angiogram (FA) and Indocyanine Green Angiography (ICG) procedures.
- Administers topical ophthalmic and dilation medications to patients.
- Maintains clean, sterile, and stocked exam rooms.
- Provides written instructions and patient education materials, ensuring patient understanding.
- Documents and summarizes ocular examinations accurately while maintaining patient flow.
- Files patient forms and updates information in CareCloud/EMR system.
- May be required to drive patients in a company-provided vehicle at some clinics.
- Maintains professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with company policies.
- Keeps commitments, informs supervisor of work progress, and complies with all regulations (e.g., OSHA, HIPAA, ADA).
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- High School education, GED, or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
- Ability to travel regularly to multiple clinics within the assigned region.
Qualifications
- Experience in the Ophthalmic or Optometric industry (desirable).
- Experience as a Back Office Technician (desirable).
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (preferred).
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (oral and written).
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to use standard office equipment.
- Ability to respond to inquiries from customers, staff, or vendors professionally.
- Strong decision-making skills under pressure; ability to interpret policies and procedures.
- Detail-oriented, organized, process-focused, and proactive problem solver.
- Customer service focused with independent judgment and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks with limited direction in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment
This is primarily an office-based role with controlled temperature conditions and limited exposure to hazardous substances. The noise level is usually low to moderate. The position requires regular travel between offices and the ability to sit, stand, walk, handle objects, and use fine motor skills (e.g., keyboarding). Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds, stooping, kneeling, bending, or crouching may be required.
Pay
$23.00 - $25.00 per hour.
