Azure Cloud Architect

About the role

Join a growing enterprise technology organization modernizing its infrastructure, cloud environment, applications, and operating practices. You will be part of a highly visible infrastructure and cloud team supporting rapid business growth while transforming a legacy environment. The team collaborates across cloud engineering, infrastructure, database administration, project delivery, application groups, and external technology partners, with heavy investment in Azure, infrastructure as code, automation, and cloud‑native operating practices. This senior individual‑contributor role is based in Fort Mill, SC (Charlotte metro area) and requires an on‑site presence, offering close work with technology leadership and the broader infrastructure organization during a major transformation.

Responsibilities

• Establish cloud architecture standards, infrastructure‑as‑code practices, automation guardrails, and technical patterns for future initiatives.
• Translate senior‑level technical direction into actionable engineering work and help delivery teams move from current state to desired future state.
• Partner with infrastructure leadership, project management, database engineering, application teams, and external partners to ensure architecture translates into successful delivery.
• Evaluate constraints, identify practical paths forward, and guide implementation while challenging assumptions.
• Contribute to cloud migrations, infrastructure modernization, and enterprise‑wide transformation efforts, including AI initiatives and evolving operating models.

Requirements

• Senior‑level cloud architecture or infrastructure engineering experience at an Engineer V or equivalent level.
• Deep Azure expertise supporting complex enterprise infrastructure environments.
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture, infrastructure as code, automation, and modern infrastructure operating practices.
• Proven ability to translate high‑level architecture and technical direction into specific, executable engineering work.
• Experience establishing technical standards, patterns, guardrails, and architectural direction for infrastructure teams.
• Strong collaborative skills with engineers, project managers, application teams, leadership, and external technology partners.
• Solutions‑oriented mindset: able to identify constraints while helping stakeholders accomplish objectives.
• Background in cloud migrations, infrastructure modernization, or large‑scale enterprise transformation initiatives.
• Exposure to AWS and/or Google Cloud is highly valuable for workload‑placement decisions.
• Comfortable staying technically close enough to guide implementation and challenge assumptions.
• Excellent communication skills to engage both senior technology leadership and hands‑on engineering teams.
