East Los Angeles College (ELAC), established in 1945 as part of the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), serves students in the Los Angeles suburb of Monterey Park and is the largest campus in its district. ELAC is dedicated to providing high-quality transfer and workforce education, adult education, basic skills, and community service programs. About the role

ELAC seeks a dynamic, user-centered, and innovative librarian to provide effective library services at the college's Southeast Campus in South Gate. This is a tenure-track position for Fall 2026, scheduled to start on August 31, 2026, with a work schedule that includes evening hours.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person and online reference services to students, faculty, and staff using various print and electronic resources.
• Conduct library instruction tailored to Southeast campus students in collaboration with faculty.
• Create effective and engaging library instruction materials, research guides, and other resources in print, web-based, and multimedia formats.
• Develop and coordinate research skills workshops.
• Design and implement library outreach programs for Southeast campus students, faculty, and staff.
• Manage the collection of materials by selecting new resources, preparing purchase orders, and working with classified staff to monitor receivals and payments for materials.
• Provide cataloging of library materials for the Southeast campus.
• Create effective library marketing materials to promote the use of library resources and services among faculty, students, and staff at the Southeast campus.
• Develop and participate in projects working with fellow librarians, staff, and faculty.
• Provide training and work directions to library classified staff and student workers.
• Monitor the Southeast campus library building and assist the department chair in managing building maintenance.
• Monitor library safety at the Southeast campus and assist the department chair with reporting safety issues.
• Serve on Southeast Campus committees to share library information and ensure the library's inclusion in new and existing programs and initiatives.
• Work evening hours and assist in library closing procedures.
• Perform other librarian duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master's degree in library science or library and information science or the equivalent from an accredited college or university.
• A sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant's expense prior to employment.
• COVID-19 vaccination: Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all employees must be fully vaccinated and complete a baseline test or have an approved exemption. Newly hired employees must provide their vaccination status prior to starting the position.

Qualifications

• Experience in general librarianship such as instruction, reference, and public and technical services.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the design, delivery, and assessment of information-competency workshops.
• Proficiency in the development and assessment of course and program learning outcomes, including the use of assessment results to improve student learning, access, and retention.
• Experience teaching online courses, hybrid courses, and web-enhanced courses.
• Knowledge of current teaching pedagogies and experience designing and implementing engaging learning activities.
• Proficiency in designing and developing library services and instructional materials in web-based and multimedia formats.
• Up-to-date knowledge of emerging educational technologies including learning management systems.
• Strong organizational and communication skills (oral and written).
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish positive relationships with students and faculty.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with the department chair, fellow librarians, and classified staff.
• Experience serving a population with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.

Pay

The current starting salary range is $76,960 - $143,000 for the ten-month academic year, depending on education and experience. A Ph.D. differential of $4,870 per academic year is available.
