DHHS-ITD is seeking an AWS/Java developer with 8-10 years of software development experience to collaborate with data modernization teams at ITD and DPH.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and propose effective modernization strategies.
- Design, develop, and test Java-based, cloud-native applications and backend systems.
- Design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines.
- Analyze data models and business requirements.
- Perform data validation by querying databases to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Design, create, and execute test cases.
- Validate back-end logic and data processing.
- Work closely with developers and business analysts to understand data requirements and ensure comprehensive test coverage.
- Utilize AWS services within application architecture.
- Develop, test, debug, and deliver solutions within timelines using best tools and practices.
- Participate in code reviews, ensure security best practices, and maintain clean, efficient code.
- Monitor application performance and optimize for cost, security, and reliability.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues and challenges.
- Ensure adherence to standards and best practices.
- Work with product managers, business stakeholders, and team members to refine requirements and deliver solutions.
Requirements
- 8-10 years of software development experience.
- Experience modernizing legacy applications, including refactoring and migrating in-house applications to the cloud.
- Proficiency in utilizing AWS services to build enterprise-level Data Lakes.
- Hands-on experience with Java, J2EE, Java Spring framework, and Hibernate.
- Experience working with transactional or RDMS databases.
- SQL: Writing complex queries, understanding database relationships, debugging, and performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based ETL tools.
- Understanding of data modeling.
- Knowledge or experience using ETL tools; experience with data analytics using PowerBI or AWS QuickSight is a plus.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum frameworks.
Skills
- Proficient in AWS services (e.g., VPC, EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS, EKS, RDS, API Gateway, Glue Crawlers, Athena). Required: 5 years
- Software development with Java, J2EE, Java Spring framework, and Hibernate. Required: 7 years
- Modernizing applications, including refactoring, migration, and cloud-native development. Required: 5 years
- Knowledge of modern database technologies and strategies for migrating and modernizing database systems. Required: 5 years
- Experience with DevOps practices and automation tools. Required: 5 years
- Experience with data analytics and business intelligence solutions (e.g., Power BI, AWS QuickSight). Nice to have: 2 years
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teams. Required: 7 years
- Experience creating AWS ETL jobs and data pipelines with high volumes of data. Required: 3 years
