AWS Developer with Java

DHHS-ITD is seeking an AWS/Java developer with 8-10 years of software development experience to collaborate with data modernization teams at ITD and DPH.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and propose effective modernization strategies.
• Design, develop, and test Java-based, cloud-native applications and backend systems.
• Design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines.
• Analyze data models and business requirements.
• Perform data validation by querying databases to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
• Design, create, and execute test cases.
• Validate back-end logic and data processing.
• Work closely with developers and business analysts to understand data requirements and ensure comprehensive test coverage.
• Utilize AWS services within application architecture.
• Develop, test, debug, and deliver solutions within timelines using best tools and practices.
• Participate in code reviews, ensure security best practices, and maintain clean, efficient code.
• Monitor application performance and optimize for cost, security, and reliability.
• Identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues and challenges.
• Ensure adherence to standards and best practices.
• Work with product managers, business stakeholders, and team members to refine requirements and deliver solutions.

Requirements

• 8-10 years of software development experience.
• Experience modernizing legacy applications, including refactoring and migrating in-house applications to the cloud.
• Proficiency in utilizing AWS services to build enterprise-level Data Lakes.
• Hands-on experience with Java, J2EE, Java Spring framework, and Hibernate.
• Experience working with transactional or RDMS databases.
• SQL: Writing complex queries, understanding database relationships, debugging, and performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-based ETL tools.
• Understanding of data modeling.
• Knowledge or experience using ETL tools; experience with data analytics using PowerBI or AWS QuickSight is a plus.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum frameworks.

Skills

• Proficient in AWS services (e.g., VPC, EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS, EKS, RDS, API Gateway, Glue Crawlers, Athena). Required: 5 years
• Software development with Java, J2EE, Java Spring framework, and Hibernate. Required: 7 years
• Modernizing applications, including refactoring, migration, and cloud-native development. Required: 5 years
• Knowledge of modern database technologies and strategies for migrating and modernizing database systems. Required: 5 years
• Experience with DevOps practices and automation tools. Required: 5 years
• Experience with data analytics and business intelligence solutions (e.g., Power BI, AWS QuickSight). Nice to have: 2 years
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teams. Required: 7 years
• Experience creating AWS ETL jobs and data pipelines with high volumes of data. Required: 3 years
