Key Responsibilities
- Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of welds on various projects, components, and structures.
- Verify that welding procedures and techniques meet specified codes and standards (e.g., AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, API).
- Review weld maps, procedures, and related documentation; maintain detailed inspection reports and records for traceability and audit purposes.
- Perform or coordinate Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) such as magnetic particle (MT), dye penetrant (PT), and ultrasonic (UT) testing.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to welders and production teams regarding welding procedures and quality issues.
- Identify, document, and track non-conformances (weld defects) and recommend corrective actions to resolve issues.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations (e.g., OSHA) during inspections.
Required Qualifications
- Certification: Current Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) credential through the American Welding Society (AWS) or equivalent (e.g., CSWIP).
- Experience: 3–5+ years of experience in welding inspection, preferably in manufacturing, construction, or shipbuilding environments.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW) and structural steel welding codes.
- Blueprints: Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and WPS/PQR documents.
- Equipment: Proficiency in using inspection tools such as weld gauges, micrometers, and calipers.
