Special Inspector - AWS CWI/ICC Welding

Technical Responsibilities

  • Inspect weldments to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and specifications
  • Review welding procedure specifications (WPS), welder qualification records, and inspection reports prior to the start of welding activities
  • Verify compliance with contract documents, submittals, and construction drawings
  • Oversee non-destructive testing (NDT) and ensure proper materials and procedures are in place
  • Identify and report non-conformance issues (NCRs) to contractors and clients in a timely manner
  • Prepare and submit detailed daily inspection reports
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all inspection activities and findings
  • Cookordination with project teams, contractors, and clients to ensure quality and compliance

Professional Experience & Education/Certifications

  • Entry-Level (3-5 years) or Mid-Level (6-9 years) with welding inspection experience
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) OR ICC Structural Steel & Welding Special Inspector Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Architecture, or related field (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of welding codes, standards, and inspection procedures
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills

Physical & Additional Requirements

  • This position requires physical ability to perform field inspections
  • Ability to work in diverse weather conditions
  • Extended periods of standing and walking, possibly on uneven or challenging terrains
  • Climbing, bending, kneeling
  • Working long hours
  • Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Valid, clean driver’s license & must have a personal vehicle and be willing to travel daily to project sites across the NYC metro area
  • Ability to transport inspection and testing equipment as needed
