Duties And Responsibilities
- Inspects and tests welded joints of work in progress and of completed units for visible defects, correct dimensions, joint strength, bead formation, weld penetration.
- Verifies part conformance with layout, blueprint, and work order specifications, applying knowledge of welding principles and metallurgical properties.
- Examines joint to detect flaws, such as cracks, cold weld, spatter, and undercuts, using flashlight and magnifying glass.
- Performs stress tests on joint, using stress testing equipment, or prepares sample for stress testing, and reviews results.
- Marks defective pieces and recommends methods for reworking.
- Records inspection data.
- Coordinate with the NDT Manager on required inspection and documentation.
- Communicate with fabrication department on priorities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education And Work Experience
- A High School diploma or GED.
- AWS Certification required.
- One to three years related experience and/or training.
- Five plus years as a MIG/TIG welder.
- Must be able to maintain CWI status.

- Inspects equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

Work Conditions
- Environment Type: Indoors. Production and office environment.
- Temperature controlled, unless products and/or equipment is located outdoors.
- Exposure Types: Bloodborne pathogens, Small and/or enclosed spaces, Cuts and/or burns, Dirt, dust, grease and/or oil, Intense bright light, Noisy environment, Metal shavings.
Work Hours
- Standard work schedule, overtime may be necessary for meeting deadlines, required travel, and emergent conditions.
Travel Requirements
- This position may involve travel up to 10% of the time.
Physical Demands
- Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
- Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
- Visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and operation of machines.
