About the role
The AVP, Payroll Operations is responsible for leading a scalable, globally integrated payroll function delivering consistent, compliant, and high-quality payroll services across Revantage and supported Blackstone Real Estate portfolio companies.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end payroll service delivery across Revantage and portfolio companies, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency in a multi-entity environment.
- Manage payroll operations across multiple legal entities, jurisdictions, and employee populations, balancing standardization with client-specific requirements.
- Establish and maintain service delivery standards, SLAs, and performance metrics to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
- Ensure payroll readiness across the employee lifecycle, including accurate processing of new hires, terminations, compensation changes, and time and absence inputs.
- Partner with Compensation, Benefits, People Operations, Finance, and P&C Business Partners to ensure alignment, data integrity, and a coordinated employee experience.
- Lead a globally integrated payroll operating model across onshore and India-based teams, optimizing work allocation, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Build and develop a high-performing payroll organization, defining clear roles, capabilities, and career progression across regions.
- Drive knowledge transfer, process standardization, and operational consistency across global teams.
- Foster a service-oriented, partner-focused culture that supports complex stakeholder needs across multiple portfolio companies.
- Serve as the functional owner of payroll within Workday, ensuring data integrity, process standardization, and system optimization as the system of record.
- Drive governance and consistency across Workday payroll, time, and absence configurations to enable scale and reduce manual intervention.
- Partner with People Technology to lead system enhancements, integrations, and releases impacting payroll operations.
- Oversee issue resolution, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement of system performance and user experience.
- Manage a hybrid payroll delivery model, including oversight of external PEO and payroll vendors.
- Ensure clear accountability, accurate data exchange, and alignment across internal and external payroll processes.
- Monitor vendor performance, service quality, and cost efficiency, identifying opportunities to optimize the operating model over time.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and international payroll regulations and tax requirements.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls, audit readiness, and risk mitigation practices across all payroll processes.
- Oversee accurate and timely payroll tax filings, regulatory reporting, and year-end processes.
- Partner with internal and external auditors to support payroll-related audits and compliance reviews.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adherence to data privacy and security standards.
- Lead payroll transformation initiatives aligned to global process standardization and automation priorities.
- Identify and implement opportunities to reduce manual processing, improve accuracy, and enhance scalability through system and process improvements.
- Develop and deliver payroll-related analytics and insights, including workforce cost reporting and payroll variance analysis.
- Partner with Finance to ensure alignment between payroll outputs and financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Own the integrity of upstream and downstream payroll inputs and outputs, ensuring alignment across onboarding, compensation, benefits, timekeeping, and financial systems.
- Collaborate across People Operations, Benefits, Compensation, and Finance to drive seamless end-to-end processes and data governance.
- Act as a consultative subject matter expert within a complex, matrixed stakeholder environment.
Qualifications
- Deep expertise in payroll operations within a complex, multi-entity and multi-jurisdictional environment.
- Proven experience leading global teams, including offshore delivery models.
- Strong knowledge of Workday payroll, time, and absence functionality.
- Experience operating within or alongside PEO / co-employment models.
- Demonstrated ability to lead transformation, standardization, and process improvement initiatives.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with a partner-oriented mindset.
- High attention to detail with a focus on risk management, compliance, and controls.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field.
- Minimum of 12 years of payroll experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a management role, identifying and building high-performing teams focused on payroll management.
- Extensive experience in Workday, ADP & PEO payroll systems and processes.
- Extensive experience in applicable state and federal employment, wage & hour, and labor laws.
- Highly proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Self-motivated with the ability to excel and be flexible in fast-paced, ever-changing environments.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Experience working in shared service environment or with outsourced service providers.
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) Certification.
