AVP, Budget and Cost Management, 3243
Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America (Hannover Re) is seeking a talented candidate for a full-time role within the CSS - Financial Reporting and Corporate Accounting department.
About the role
Serves as head of the Budget and Cost Management department, including hiring, retaining, and developing talent. Plans and develops the management expense budgeting program for the family of companies under Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America (“HLRA Family”). Oversees intercompany billings, reimbursements, reconciliations, and collections for non-technical business services, project work, and third-party costs. Facilitates intercompany billings received by HLR US from Hannover Rück SE (“Hannover Office”). Prepares financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation for the annual transfer pricing review requested by HLRA Family’s tax advisors.
Responsibilities
- (40%) Coordinates and prepares HLRA Family’s annual management expense budgets and quarterly forecasts under guidelines and deadlines set by the Home Office and HLR US. Prepares budget and cost controlling reports with analytical commentary for Group Controlling Services (GCS) and Operational Council (OC) members.
- (20%) Develops, maintains, and updates the management planning process while identifying cost and labor savings opportunities for HLRA Family.
- (15%) Oversees intercompany billings and reimbursement reconciliations for non-technical services, project work, and third-party costs per transfer pricing guidelines. Sends reminders and makes collection requests for non-technical intercompany amounts owed to HLR US or HLRA Bermuda.
- (15%) Facilitates intercompany billings issued by FA-Corporate Accounting (FA-CCA) for services rendered by the Home Office to HLR US. Routes billings for approval, supplies account and department coding, and investigates past-due amounts owed to the Home Office.
- (10%) Prepares schedules and reports such as quarterly management expense reports, 5-year plans, payments to foreign affiliates, board book schedules, and narratives. Provides supporting documentation for the annual transfer pricing review and fulfills ad-hoc requests.
- Administers the company’s budgeting software system, including user setup, entity and project maintenance, access rights, training, report design, and system enhancements in partnership with IT.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of five years of experience in general budgeting and accounting, including three years of staff management.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, including exporting, importing, complex linking, V-lookups, and pivot tables.
- Effective communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA and/or MBA designation or equivalent.
- Experience with Abacus (budgeting), PeopleSoft (accounts payable and general ledger), and Concur (online travel and expense reporting).
- General understanding of STAT and IFRS accounting.
- Prior insurance industry experience.

Travel
Travel to other US offices is less than 5%.
Pay
Total compensation (inclusive of base + bonus): $130,900 - $177,100.
