Avionics Technician II (T44 Whiting CBA Only)

About the role

The Avionics Technician 2 performs aircraft maintenance to include inspection, operational test, repair, modification and replacement of aircraft electrical / avionics systems and components. They apply technical knowledge and skills to troubleshoot complex electrical / avionics discrepancies.

Responsibilities

• Use schematic diagrams, blueprint drawings, maintenance manuals, and factory publications to operate, modify, test, and repair aircraft electrical / avionics systems.
• Utilize test equipment such as digital volt / amp meter, transponder ramp tester, fuel quantity tester, ITT calibration test set, and other required test equipment for troubleshooting, modification, and repair of avionics / electrical systems.
• Operate and test respective aircraft avionics components using the T-6 Maintenance Manual, NATOPS, and factory published manuals.
• Initiate and complete applicable maintenance forms in NALCOMIS/OOMA VIDS/MAFS as required.
• Order parts and materials.
• Obtain and maintain qualification as a Plane Captain and any associated licenses/qualifications necessary to perform the duties of an OMAT2.
• Operate ground support equipment.
• Identify and treat avionics/ electrical corrosion.
• Perform aircraft jacking and hoisting as required.
• Perform certification and re-certification of altimeter systems.
• Perform calibration of directional guidance systems.
• Initiate and complete applicable maintenance forms in NALCOMIS/OOMA VIDS/MAFS as required.
• Must be a collateral duty inspector and obtain and keep current turn qualification.
• Maintain cleanliness of the work center.
• Perform other related duties as directed by management.
• Comply with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Egress Familiarization, and Hazardous Waste and Tool Control programs.
• Comply with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
• Assist as directed to ensure safety, security and preservation of government / company owned equipment.
• Present a courteous and professional demeanor when dealing with customers.
• Furnish and maintain own hand tools.
• Operate portable firefighting equipment.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate the ability to read and comprehend schematic diagrams, generate, sign off and order parts utilizing NALCOMIS/OOMA VIDS/MAF OPNAV form 4790/60, utilize aircraft electrical/ avionics systems and applicable maintenance / technical manuals and publications.
• Possess working knowledge and skill in the use of basic tools and test equipment.
• Must be familiar with the operational capabilities and limitations of electrical / avionics systems.
• Possess a working knowledge of the detection, prevention, and treatment of corrosion.
• Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate in the English language and follow verbal and written instruction.

Education / Licenses

• Satisfactory completion of U.S. Armed Forces aircraft avionics school or other schools with equivalent curriculum or three (3) years of on-the-job training and / or experience working with similar avionics systems and components is required.
• Graduation from high school or GED required.
• Must be able to meet any Government / Company licensing / qualification requirements for the position.

Experience

• Must have three (3) years’ experience in aircraft electrical / avionics maintenance including avionics corrosion detection, treatment and prevention, performing maintenance on avionics and/ or electrical systems, utilizing tools, blueprints, drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and normal safety requirement.

Equipment Operated

• Aircraft ground servicing equipment including vehicles, tugs, tractors, servicing carts, aircraft jacks and hoists, test equipment, hand tools, power tools.

Physical Effort

• Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.
• Frequent climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, lifting, carrying, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level, pushing or pulling weight up to 70 pounds.
• Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
• Must have close vision to include color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Requires hearing to normal range.
• May require use of respirator.

Working Conditions

• A diversity of working conditions that range from a standard shop/hangar-type environment where there may be no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes in temperature, direct sun, wind, rain, etc.
• May be required to work in areas where noise hazards are prevalent.

Potential Hazards

• Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperature, materials identified on Safety Data Sheets, working on or around aircraft and machinery.
• May be exposed to electrical shock hazard.

Work Location

• Aircraft maintenance shops, hangars, and flightline.
• May require travel in support of cross-country rescue and detachments of unknown duration.
