About the role
This is a Journey level for an avionics technician. Incumbents at this level are FCC-certificated technicians that design aircraft radio installations; install aircraft communication and navigation radio systems; disassemble, inspect diagnose, and repair aircraft communication and navigation radio components.
Responsibilities
- Possession of the following certificates: FCC General Radio Certificate and a valid Class-C Driver’s License
- Five years of aerospace industry work experience as an avionics technician
- Military experience may qualify if the level of work and responsibility and equipment worked on was equal to that of an avionics technician (this position requires that the incumbent have a working knowledge of GA avionics)
- Knowledge and Abilities: FCC and FAA communication and navigation radio repair, installation, and modification; avionics installations including antennas, cables, receiver-transmitters, audio control and switching, frequency compatibility, and RF interference and avionics used in fleet aircraft
- Inspect, tune, and adjust avionics installed in aircraft for maximum performance and proper operation
- Remove and repair all communication and navigation radio units in fleet aircraft
- Design and layout avionics system installations in aircraft
- Trouble shoot defective components and aircraft systems and make necessary repairs to components and aircraft systems
