About the role

At Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS), we deliver innovative solutions that safeguard national security and advance the defense, aerospace, and technology industries. As a Navigation Systems Engineer, you will lead the design, development, integration, and verification of cutting-edge navigation solutions for aerospace systems. This role works within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-performance, resilient navigation architectures that meet stringent mission and safety requirements.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret-level government security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).

Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve navigation system architectures (e.g., GNSS, INS, Sensor Fusion using Kalman filtering, Bayesian methods).
  • Interface with cross-functional teams—software, supplier, program management, and customers—to align technical solutions with program goals.
  • Capture, trace, and verify system requirements using DOORS or equivalent tools; ensure compliance with MIL STD and customer specifications.
  • Contribute to system design and requirements development, ensuring architectures, interfaces, and behaviors align with customer and program needs.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve software and system-level defects to maintain mission readiness and reliability.

Requirements

  • Experience with navigation systems (EGI, GPS, RNP/RNAV, Terrain Avoidance, Radio Nav, Traffic Collision Avoidance, etc.) and/or Identification Systems (IFF, etc.).
  • Broad systems engineering experience (e.g., system architecture and design, systems documentation, system requirements, CONOPS, systems verification).
  • Experience integrating and testing hardware and/or software.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related STEM discipline from an accredited college.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD government clearance at the Secret level (U.S. citizenship required).

Desired Skills

  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools (e.g., SysML, Cameo).
  • Broad understanding of RF principles and antenna design.
  • Leadership and mentorship capabilities.
  • Experience with MATLAB, MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-429.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of civil certification regulations, requirements, and processes (e.g., RTCA, FAA, ICAO, etc.).
  • Current active Secret security clearance.

Pay

The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $125,600 - $217,695. For states not referenced above, including Owego, NY, the salary range is $109,200 - $192,510. Salary is determined by factors such as scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education/training, key skills, and market considerations.

This position is incentive plan eligible.

Schedule

This is a full-time, onsite position with a 4x10-hour day schedule (3 days off per week). Lockheed Martin supports flexible work schedules, including condensed options that provide additional time away from the office.
