About the role

As an Avionics Install Technician at West Star, you’ll work on some of the most sophisticated civilian aircraft in the world, performing tasks that range from replacing and repairing complex avionics systems to troubleshooting electrical systems and conducting inspections. Each day brings new experiences and opportunities for growth in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Removal and installation of panels, components, and interiors, as well as repair work on avionics installations.
• Stamp, bundle, and install connectors on wiring.
• Removal of old wiring and installation of new wire bundles in aircraft.
• Troubleshooting and evaluation of avionics systems on the aircraft when designated.
• Inspection and evaluation of the aircraft and components when designated.
• Aircraft movement and assistance in hangar stack when required.
• Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment, and tooling.
• Navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases using basic computer skills.
• Work within a team process and independently on projects when required.
• Effectively and clearly communicate (speak, write, read) in English.
• Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Electronics or Avionics training is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal but not mandatory.

Experience Levels

• Tech I: 0-2 years of experience in avionics, military avionics, or electrical field. Limited to no knowledge of the position; requires close supervision and constant check-ins on work performance.
• Tech II: 2-4 years of experience in avionics or military avionics field. Considerable knowledge of the job with a broad understanding of detailed aspects; requires general supervision and instructions.
• Tech III: 4-6 years of experience in avionics or military avionics field. Full knowledge of the job and complete understanding of detailed aspects; limited supervision required, no instruction needed, and can act as a trainer or mentor.
• Master Technician: 6+ years’ experience with corporate/business avionics systems. Exclusive knowledge in all areas of the job; subject matter expert with wide and comprehensive knowledge.

Physical Requirements

• Lift up to 50 lbs.
• Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting.
• Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
• Standing for long periods of time.
• Climb ladders and stairs; work in small, restricted areas.

Mental Requirements

• Understand and implement regulations and guidelines.
• Follow wiring diagrams, route, and terminate wires at proper locations.
• Troubleshoot, evaluate, and perform functional tests for various avionics and instrument systems.
• Work with others in a professional manner.

Supervision

Work under the supervision of an assigned Team Leader and Director of Maintenance. May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations (very cold to very hot).
• Occasional work outside during aircraft runs.
• Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

• Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
• Pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment.
• Jacks, stands, lifts, and other support devices.
• Tugs, power carts, and other engine-powered equipment.
• Crimpers, soldering iron, and heat guns.
