Avid Tutor

Position Overview

AVID Tutor Hours: 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM
Days: Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
Compensation/benefits: $19.00 per hour

AVID Goals

• Support students in rigorous coursework
• Teach academic and social skills not targeted in other classes
• Provide intensive support with in-class tutors and a strong student/teacher relationship
• Create a positive peer group for students
• Develop a sense of hope and personal achievement through hard work and determination

AVID Elective Class

• Students learn skills that will help prepare them to be successful in advanced courses in both high school and college
• Focuses on writing, critical thinking, collaboration, reading, note-taking, study skills and organization
• Tutors provide support twice a week to answer questions about difficult topics
• Students explore potential careers and visit colleges and universities

Qualifications

• Experience with AVID or working in an academic setting is highly preferred
