The aviation project manager (airport project inspector) is responsible for administering state and federal airport improvement grants through all phases of an aviation project, from grant application through construction and final closeout, to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements. Responsibilities are performed under direct supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and approves aviation project plans and specifications
  • Maintains contract administration activities on aviation projects statewide to ensure construction quality meets approved specifications; conducts field inspections to assess progress and workmanship
  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive project records and reviews and approves all project invoices, as well as all project closeout documentation
  • Reviews grant applications
  • Reviews/approves scope of work and fees for project consultant agreements (design and construction observation) for acceptance

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum
  • If you do not meet the minimum qualifications as listed above, your starting salary will be below the minimum stated salary

Special Working Conditions

  • Most duties are performed in an office environment, with site visits conducted as necessary
  • Job requires occasional, statewide, overnight travel
  • Job requires exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable environmental conditions
  • Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials

Pay

The entry salary is posted above, with the intermediate starting salary of $72,691.68, and a senior starting salary of $78,506.88. The entry salary for candidates who do not have an engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum (require a waiver) will be $52,511.52, the intermediate salary of $56,712.48, and senior salary will be $61,249.44.
