Aviation Maintenance Technology Instructor (Reedley College) Part-Time Faculty Pool

About the Role

The ideal candidate will share Reedley College’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As of fall 2017, Reedley College enrolls over 10,000 students: 71% Latinx, 1% Filipino, 3% Asian, 2% African American, 19% White, and 2% multiracial. The college is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting its responsibility to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

Responsibilities

• Maintain standards of professional conduct, ethics, and currency in teaching Aviation Maintenance Technology.
• Teach subject matters in the FAA-approved FAR Part 147 curriculum, including Airframe and Powerplant courses.
• Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate instructional delivery systems, including innovative and creative uses of technology for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
• Communicate effectively with students and use teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter, adhering to institutionally approved curriculum and course outlines.
• Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, and oral responses in alignment with course objectives.
• Provide course syllabi to students and maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
• Submit all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
• Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
• Teach in various instructional settings and times, including evenings, weekends, online, off-campus, and large group instruction as needed.

Requirements

• Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to equity-minded practice within the classroom.
• One of the following combinations of qualifications:
  • A valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic License and Aircraft Inspection Authorization, and any bachelor’s degree or higher, and two years of directly related experience; or
  • A valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic License and Aircraft Inspection Authorization, and any associate degree, and six years of directly related experience; or
  • A valid California Community College credential; or
  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications

• Current experience in aircraft repair and maintenance, airframe and powerplant inspections, and systems.
• Ability to teach basic airframe and powerplant repair and involve students in practical applications of instruction.
• Related work and professional experience, including experience in computer-assisted instruction and other instructional technologies.
• Strong communication skills (oral and written) and ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
• Experience developing new and current curriculum with a focus on student learning outcomes.
• Experience working with students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, particularly African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students.
• Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to support racially minoritized students.
• Experience and skill in addressing issues of equity in the classroom.
• Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth.
• Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Pay

Starting rates are $45.49 – $61.78 per hour for lecture and $38.67 – $52.55 per hour for lab.
